Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Sentimental Journey (1945)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Doris sings that she has her bag packed. Tell us about your luggage. Is your bag easy to spot on the luggage carousel?

Well I never travel so my luggage doesn't exist.

2) The release of this song coincided with VE Day, and so it meant a great deal to troops returning home from Europe. What song has sentimental value for you? Why?

I have a couple: Wind Beneath My Wings because if it I won Vocal Scholarships, Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond and Ruby (Don't Take Your Love to Town) by Kenny Rodgers because my Mom loved them.

3) As a young girl, Doris was passionate about dance. Concentrating in the studio and performing on stage helped distract her from heartache and embarrassment over her parents' divorce. When you want to escape from what's troubling you, what do you do?

I play games or go to sleep

4) Her dancing days came to an end when, at age 15, she was in a car accident and damaged her leg. During her recovery, she discovered how much she enjoyed singing with the radio, and was delighted to find others enjoyed hearing her. Tell us about a time you unexpectedly found happiness or success.

I wasn't looking for love. One day I was talking to a neighbor and this HANDSOME guy walked up ... I couldn't stop looking at him. We started talking. Became friends. Next thing you know I moved in with him. A year and a few months later and I am happier than I have ever been. LOVE YOU JIMBO.

5) She moved from singer to actress in the late 1940s and was a major movie star for 25 years. She was paired with the most popular leading men of her time -- everyone from Clark Gable to Frank Sinatra to Rock Hudson. If you could share a kiss with any actor or actress, who would you choose?

James McAvoy

6) 1968 was a terrible year for Doris. First, she suddenly became a widow. Then she discovered that her late husband and his business partner had squandered her money and she had to file for bankruptcy. Oh, wait! There's more! She also found that, in his role as her manager, her late husband had, without her knowledge, committed her to a weekly TV series. Do you have a 1968? What year you can point to and say, "Wow, I'm glad that's over"?

Well honestly it was August 2012 through December 2013. I had a heart attack, got a divorce, lost both parents... it was a hell of a year.

7) After retiring from show business, she became an advocate for animal welfare. She has said we should be more sensitive to the loneliness, sadness and guilt people feel when they lose a pet. Think of a time you were grieving. What words or gestures helped you through? Conversely, what's something no one should ever say to someone who is hurting?

You should NEVER say you know how someone feels. You don't. The best thing you can do is say how sorry you are for their loss. You can never know how they feel because you are NOT them.

8) Doris' only child was her son, record producer Terry Melcher. Terry had a successful, years-long collaboration with The Beach Boys. Do you have a favorite Beach Boys song?

No not really... Mom did... she loved KoKoMo

9) Random question: What's one thing you've never done, but have always wanted to try?

I want to visit Transylvania, swim with sharks, and touch a tiger

Wednesday Melody

1.  With the holidays coming, what is your most essential appliance to help you prepare for the celebrations?

I really don't have one that I can say "HEY I HAVE TO USE THAT". I use everything everyday from my toaster oven to my crock pot. I am not fancy but I am a great cook.

2.  What is your favorite (clean) word?

Awww... I wanted to say F...

ok I'll be good. Just this once.

My favorite CLEAN word is LOVE because LOVE is everything.

3.  Are you a good judge of character?

I think some would say NO because I've been married twice and how can someone blind to abusers be a good judge of character... but I am. I am usually DEAD on with my assessment of someone. It usually takes me less than a minute to know if I like someone or not.

4. What is the last thing you took a picture of?  Can you share it with us?

The last picture I took was last night. I was watching CATFISH (yea I watch that) and my cat Lily was watching too but she was laying in a strange way so I snapped this pic...

5. Tomorrow, November 15, is Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day.  How do you intend to celebrate?

Since the move, my fridge is BARE as can be. So I will try to put more into it. LOL.

6. Tell us something random about your week!

Jimbo and I decided that we both really don't care for TURKEY. So our Thanksgiving will be turkey-less. I probably will end up doing a CHICKEN and stuffing with a side of Cranberry sauce and some white shoepeg corn.

TMI Tuesday

TMI Tuesday blog

1. Name 3 things that most excite your imagination when you imagine doing them? (I know TMI Tuesday blog is number one, so name three other things  😀 ).

Going to the Beach, Seeing a Movie I wanted to see, Playing a game

2. When sleeping with your significant other (yes, actually sleeping) do you like to cuddle up or do you prefer sleeping away from them nestled in your own blanket cocoon?

Jimbo and I hardly snuggle and that makes me sad ... but actually when I am sleeping I tend to HOG my own covers (which is why Jimbo and I have our own blankets) and also I have asthma so sometimes I have to sleep sitting up (strange I know).

3. Would you rather:
a. Drive 200 miles well over the legally drunk limit?
or
b. Drive 200 miles after being awake for 72 hours?

I've done B and would NEVER do A.

4. Would you rather:
a. Be topless all the time
or
b. Pantless all the time

Neither. I hate being NAKED. But... if I could wear PANTIES ... then no pants just panties and a shirt.

5. What is something you could talk about for hours?

MOVIES and cats

Bonus: What is something you could talk about for hours and not bore people to death?

probably music cause I am a retired music teacher and know a lot but I could also say I am pretty easy to talk to so I can talk about anything and not bore someone.

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: The Middle (2018)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about compromise. When did you recently give in a little and meet someone halfway? I had to compromise on living in an apartment vs living somewhere else. I wasn't keen on the apartment life because I've heard the horror stories. Well this apartment building isn't like that. It's VERY VERY quiet and nice compared to what I thought it would be. I am very happy with the outcome. And no, it wasn't my Jimbo that FORCED this on me... it was circumstances beyond control of me or him.

2) She sings that the floors are wet. Are there any floors in your home that could use a good scrub today? If you answered "yes," will those floors get cleaned this weekend? Nope. My floors are REALLY REALLY nice.

3) She also sings that the cabinets are bare. What's currently on your shopping list? Anything FOOD related. We are kinda low on supplies at the moment because of the move.

4) You may be familiar with this song from Target's TV commercials. Do you often shop at Target? Nope. Target isn't my kinda store. I just find it annoying.

5) The lead vocal is handled by Maren Morris, a Grammy winner for "My Church," which is all about singing with the car radio. What's the last song you sang along with? I think it was Enter Sandman by Metallica. I think it was on the radio when I rented the U-Haul.

6) This past April, Maren married singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd and they have performed onstage together. Who is the last person you sang along with?  I can't remember...

7) This song was composed by brothers Kyle and Michael Trewartha. With their bleached hair and sunglasses, they look like a pair of surfer dudes -- which they are, having grown up in Huntington Beach, CA. Is there a body of water near your hometown? Yea I live live 10 minutes from Mobile Bay in Mobile, Alabama.

8) January 2018, when this song debuted, we had a total lunar eclipse. When things like that happen in the sky, do you go out of your way to watch? I try to catch them but if I don't I will look up photographs.

9) Random question -- They say we're all young at heart. In what way can you be childlike? I still love cartoons. I love coloring. I get excited and giddy when something exciting happens.
